Roborock S8 Pro Ultra

NZ$2,999.00

Order now for Delivery Mid-December.

The Roborock S8 Pro Ultra is the most hands-free robot to date, with it’s mop raising feature, auto-emptying and self-cleaning capability.

Roborock have taken the award winning Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra and added a extra few bells and whistles. With obstacle avoidance, 3D mapping, brand new dual rubber brush system and 6000pa of suction – there’s not much the S8 Pro Ultra can’t do. The auto-Empty, Wash, Fill dock takes ‘hands-free’ cleaning to a whole new level – when the robot comes back to dock the station cleans and dries the mopping pad – leaving it freshly ready for a whole new mopping run.

  • Best suited for most large multi-level homes
  • Cleans up to 300m²
  • Methodical and accurate navigation
  • 180 minute run-time
  • Official 24 month warranty

    Our View

    Unfiltered expert opinion

"I know robot cleaners well by now, and to date, there has never been a single robot that combines all of the best features available. In theory though, the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra may be the first, as it has an all-in-one dock that empties itself, washes the mops, and now also dries the mopping pads to stop it from smelling. This is combined with improved cleaning performance thanks to the dual rollers, increased mopping vibration and water dispersion, and retains the all-important mop-lifting function. "

    Thoughts.

I thought its predecessor, the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra, was incredible but there were still a few things that I would’ve changed if were part of the development team. Rather than implementing crazy new features, they’ve brought all of the best features onto one robot.

    What we loved.

This is the first non-iRobot vacuum to have dual roller brushes, which significantly improves performance on carpet. We found it to be 30-40% better on pet-hair than the S7 model at removing deeply embedded pet-hair.

The new dock is elegant as they’ve partially covered the 3 containers. Most people would’ve wanted to place the S7 MaxV Ultra dock out of sight, but I think this one is nice enough to leave on show.

The vibra-rise mop lifting system is a winner. This hasn’t changed since the S7, however it’s still arguably the most important feature on a hybrid vacuum/mop combo.

It has plenty of suction, at 6000 pascals. This is important in some scenarios but the reality is that the dual roller brushes do most of the work. The S7 MaxV’s mopping performance was very good, however occasionally we had feedback that it wasn’t wet enough at the edge of the mopping pads. On the S8 Pro, they have doubled the water dispersion and increased the vibrational area, which improves the mopping performance and makes it mop closer to the wall.

It features obstacle avoidance which helps it avoid items on the floor. It utilises a combination of a camera and a secondary laser system for optimal performance in all settings.

The navigation remains brilliant, although no noticeable change from the S7 series. The quick mapping function and accurate navigation remains a market leader.

Again, the app hasn’t changed much but it was already very good. It’s intuitive, simple, and they push frequent updates.
    Things to consider.

You can no longer view footage from the on-board camera through the Roborock app.

The obstacle avoidance camera is now black and white, instead of full RGB colour. It’s very hard to see if this affects performance, if at all.

It isn’t cheap. It will improve your quality of life, but don’t break the bank on it! We’re always happy to chat through other options and explain the differences if you’re unsure.

It requires auto-empty dust-bags – no bagless option is available with the Ultra dock.
    Who should use this robot.

In 2023, the S8 Pro Ultra is the pinnacle of robot cleaning. It does a good job of all fundamental cleaning tasks, such as vacuuming and mopping, with a minimal amount of help from you. The software and hardware have proven reliable on previous generations, and it is intuitive to use.

This will do a good job of keeping the floors clean, whether they’re carpet or hard-floors. It can manage large homes of up to ~250m², and is well equipped for pet owners and parents. It can save multiple floor plans for multi-level homes, however you will still need to carry it between levels.

This is an estimate to help you choose which robots to consider. The max cleaning area is more accurate if you know the size of your home.

Up to approx. 3 to 4 bedrooms

This is the maximum size home the robot can clean.  This will be affected if you have a lot of furniture or particularly deep-pile carpet.

    Max cleaning area 300 m²

Self-mapping robots save a floor-plan of your home to allow you to add no-go lines and room-select (if available).  Some robots only support single-level homes (1 floor-plan), while others allow you to save multiple.

This is the pressure of the suction.  This is a good indication of cleaning performance, however it isn't the whole picture.  Check out our test videos to see real-life cleaning.

    6000 Pa suction

Some robots can automatically empty themselves into their base.  Most auto-empty stations hold 30 full cleans.

A vacuum always needs a filter. It does not filter what is picked up, it filters out what escapes back into the room.  It is particularly important for people with allergies or respiratory concerns.

High-efficiency is typically 99% of allergens down to 10μm, while a HEPA filter is 99.97% of allergens down to 0.3μm.

    High Efficiency Filters

This is one of the most important specs for any robot as it is the main factor in how smart it is.

    Navigation: Ultra-accurate (LiDAR)

Watch the navigation test video on this page to see how efficiently it maps a room!

    Methodical and accurate navigation

Some robots have secondary navigation looking at the floor to help it avoid objects that may jam the vacuum.  These are typically 3D lasers or cameras with object recognition.

Note: most robots will run without connecting to a smart-phone, however many require an app to access all the features.

    "Hey Robomate, clean my home!"

Some robots are smart-home compatible and can be voice controlled.

If this is a key purchasing factor for you, we suggest getting in touch prior to purchasing.

Schedule cleans to suit your schedule.  For example, schedule your robot to start at 8:30 every morning while you're dropping the kids off to school.

    Schedule cleans via the app

No-go zones are virtual barriers.  They're normally very easy to set-up by drawing lines on the map your robot automatically creates on your smart-phone.  This is very useful if there are any unusually tricky spots in the house.

No-Go Zones - tell the robot to avoid specific areas

With room select, the robot will clean the selected area(s) and return home without trying to clean the rest of the house.  Traditionally robots will clean everywhere they can access, however some premium robot vacuums have the ability to schedule specific rooms.

Room select - specify which rooms to clean

All our robots will recharge automatically, however some will remember where they left off and resume cleaning if they didn't finish the job.

    Automatically recharge and resume

Some robots can also do mopping.  In some cases this can affect vacuuming performance so watch our full review if this is important for you.

Vacuum and Mopping, Vacuum only, Mopping Only

Water capacity for mopping.  On most robot mops this will need to be refilled between cleans.

    300 ml water for mopping

No mop zones let you tell the robot what is carpet and what is hard-floor.  Robot mops without this capability will require quite a lot of set-up to be effective.

Virtual no mop zones to prevent mopping on carpet

D-shaped robots can clean a lot more effectively close to walls than circle robots.

Circle robots can navigate a lot more easily in tight spaces as they can rotate on the spot.

    Circle

This is the height of the robot.  It will clean under any furniture where it can fit!

    96 mm high

The capacity of debris it will collect.  This is less important on auto-emptying robots.

"“Rosie” found her way around our house and we found what I thought was a clean house was a little embarrassing how much she managed to find, so much more dust. Our house is quite big so we bought “Freddie” to join the family."
